The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions were announced following a selection process conducted at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, where the officers were assessed through written examinations and oral interviews. According to the PSC, the promotions were based on merit, seniority, record of service, and overall performance.

The officers elevated to the rank of DIG include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, fdc, formerly AIG in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi; Zango Ibrahim Baba, formerly AIG, Department of Logistics and Supply; Isyaku Mohammed, formerly AIG, Armament at the Force Headquarters, Abuja; Margaret Agebe Ochalla, formerly AIG, FCID Annex, Lagos; Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, mni, formerly AIG, Police Accounts and Budget at the Force Headquarters, Abuja; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, fdc, formerly AIG, Zone 15, Maiduguri; and Umar Shehu Nadada, mni, formerly AIG, Zone 14, Katsina.

The latest promotions come shortly after the elevation of DIG Fayoade Adegoke to the substantive rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, bringing him into the Force Management Team.

The Commission explained that the promotions became necessary following the retirement of eight DIGs who previously occupied strategic positions in the police hierarchy.

Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism and commitment to national security.

Argungu also encouraged the officers to maintain a cordial and productive working relationship with the Commission to support ongoing reforms and development within the Nigeria Police Force.

Members of the PSC Board who participated as examiners in the promotion exercise included Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, JSC (rtd); Dr. Taiwo Lakanu, DIG (rtd) and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters; and the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.

The promotions are expected to fill key leadership vacancies, further enhance operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
