Iran has launched a drone attack on the United States Embassy in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, causing a minor fire and limited material damage, according to Saudi authorities. The attack occurred early Tuesday, but the embassy was reportedly empty at the time, and no casualties were reported.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that two drones hit the diplomatic compound, while air defense systems intercepted four others targeting the area. Plumes of black smoke were visible over Riyadh’s diplomatic district, which houses several foreign missions.
In response, the embassy urged U.S. citizens to avoid the compound. The attack follows a similar incident at the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait, which remains closed for precautionary reasons.

The escalation comes amid heightened hostilities in the Gulf region. Iran described the drone strikes as retaliation for joint US-Israel strikes on Iranian territory. On Monday, debris from an Iranian drone attack forced the state-owned Saudi Aramco to shut down its Ras Tanura refinery.
President Donald Trump warned that Washington’s response to the embassy attacks and the deaths of American service members would be forthcoming, stating, “You’ll find out soon.”

Tensions in the Gulf continue to rise as the conflict widens, raising concerns over regional security and the protection of civilian and diplomatic sites.
