Adamu Atiku Abubakar, the first son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.
His resignation was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Abdulaziz Jauro.
Adamu, who served two terms in Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s cabinet, expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to serve.
“In his resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, he expressed profound gratitude to His Excellency, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, for the rare privilege and confidence bestowed upon him to serve in such a strategic capacity,” the statement read.
Appreciation And Future Plans:
Adamu described his tenure as commissioner as an honour of immense significance and pledged continued loyalty and support to the administration’s developmental vision.
He also thanked ministry officials, including permanent secretaries, directors and engineers, for their professionalism and dedication to infrastructure development across the state.
Special appreciation was extended to the people of Jada, his hometown, for their support and prayers throughout his time in office.
The former commissioner said his resignation marks “the beginning of new avenues for developmental collaboration,” signalling that he intends to remain active in public service.
Political Undertones:
Adamu was absent last Thursday when Governor Fintiri defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Government House in Yola.
He is reportedly nursing governorship ambitions, although he has yet to publicly declare the political platform under which he intends to contest.
Sources close to his father indicated that Atiku Abubakar has endorsed him for a senatorial contest.
Meanwhile, Abba Atiku, another son of the former vice president, is expected to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the APC platform.
Adamu Atiku is the son of Atiku’s first wife, Titi Atiku, while Abba Atiku is the son of his second wife, Laadi Yakubu Atiku.
His resignation adds a fresh dimension to the evolving political landscape in Adamawa State ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
