The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, bail of ₦200 million each in a terrorism financing and firearms case brought by the Department of State Services (DSS). Bail conditions include two sureties with developed property in Abuja, deposit of passports, and passport photographs.
However, Malami was remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre over a separate 16-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) involving alleged money laundering and unlawful acquisition of assets worth over ₦8.7 billion. His wife, Asabe, was remanded at Suleja Correctional Centre.
The DSS had accused Malami and his son of knowingly abetting terrorism financing, possessing firearms unlawfully. All defendants pleaded not guilty. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik adjourned the case to March 6 for hearing of the bail application and commencement of trial.
