The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of six worshippers from a Celestial Church located along the Uso/Owo Expressway in Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, February 25, at about 12:50a.m.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the victims were taken to an unknown destination by the attackers.

He stated that upon receiving the report, operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, swiftly mobilised to the scene and launched coordinated rescue operations.

“As a result of sustained joint efforts, one of the kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued,” Jimoh said.

He added that one suspected informant linked to the abduction had been arrested and was assisting security agencies with ongoing investigations.

According to the police spokesperson, security operations are still underway to secure the safe release of the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the crime.

The command urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to support security agencies by providing credible and actionable information that could aid the rescue efforts.
