The Nigeria Customs Service intercepted 22 wraps of cocaine weighing 25 kilograms, valued at N1bn, along the Badagry-Seme axis in Lagos State. The seizure was made public by Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, during a parade of the suspect and the contraband at the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Ikeja. One suspect was arrested in connection with the smuggling.

The seized cocaine, along with the Toyota Highlander used to convey it, was handed over to the NDLEA for forensic analysis and further investigation. Commander of the NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command, Abubakar Liman Wali, estimated the street value of the drugs at N40m per kilogram.

In a related development, Adeniyi announced that the Customs Service will transition to a fully paperless environment by the end of Q2 2026, starting with the One-Stop-Shop (OSS) initiative. This digital framework will integrate customs processing, risk interventions, enforcement, and gate operations into a single workflow, aiming to reduce physical interactions, enhance data integrity, and speed up clearance.

Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Tariff and Trade, Caroline Niagwan, said the digital platform consolidates all risk interventions into a single interface, improving efficiency and cutting procedural bottlenecks. Industry representatives from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance trade facilitation and reduce costs.
