The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has crossed the halfway mark in Friday’s parliamentary elections, local TV station Ekattor TV reported, giving the party a simple majority in the 300-seat parliament.

BNP Chairman, Tarique Rahman was seen speaking to journalists outside polling units after casting his vote, celebrating the win which could restore political stability to the country. According to Ekattor TV, the party bagged 151 seats, enough to call the shots in the new government.

The victory marks a major moment for Bangladesh, a country that has struggled with political tensions in recent years. Observers say the BNP win could bring some calm and a fresh start for governance.

Counting continues in some constituencies, but for now, BNP supporters are in high spirits, ready to steer the country into a new chapter.
