The Federal Ministry of Justice on Wednesday convened its 2026 Justice Sector Retreat at its headquarters in Abuja, bringing together chief executives and heads of agencies under the ministry to harmonise their strategic work plans for the year.
The retreat, themed “ Streamlining the Ministry’s 2026 Performance Management Cycle in Alignment with Presidential Priorities and Sector-Specific Deliverables ,” focused on strengthening coordination, accountability and execution across agencies within the justice sector.
Declaring the event open, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, stressed the need for collective commitment in delivering on the ministry’s 2026 objectives.
He urged heads of agencies to demonstrate strong leadership, uphold transparency and accountability, and ensure effective implementation of sector priorities in line with the presidential agenda.
“The success of our justice reforms depends on disciplined execution and measurable outcomes,” the AGF said, charging participants to align their institutional strategies with national development goals.
During the retreat, agencies presented their proposed work plans and key performance indicators for 2026, with discussions centred on improving efficiency, enhancing service delivery and strengthening institutional collaboration.
In her presentation, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayomi Odusote, unveiled the institution’s Strategic Roadmap for modernization anchored on the ARISE Framework Academic Excellence, Research, Infrastructure Development, Sustainability, and Enhanced Technology.
Dr. Odusote outlined specific targets for 2026, including advancing legal education standards, accelerating digital transformation, and expanding research capacity to better support justice sector reforms.
She reaffirmed the Nigerian Law School’s commitment towards contributing meaningfully to the ministry’s performance goals and aligning its programmes with broader presidential priorities.
