China has pledged assistance to Cuba – following a jet fuel shortage which has disrupted airline operations, reportedly worsened by U.S. restrictions on fuel shipments from Venezuela.

At a press briefing on Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed that no Chinese citizens were stranded in Cuba due to the disruption. He emphasized China’s support for Cuba in safeguarding its sovereignty and security, stating; “We will always provide support and help to the Cuban side to the best of our ability,” while opposing foreign interference in Cuban affairs.

The statement comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the region, with Cuba facing ongoing fuel supply challenges that have affected both civil aviation and energy sectors. China’s offer signals continued strategic support for Havana as it navigates the crisis.

Lin’s remarks underscore Beijing’s commitment towards strengthening bilateral ties, maintaining stability in countries facing economic and logistical pressures due to international sanctions.
