The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has maintained access to its online voter portal for selected electoral services as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections.

The development does not amount to a reopening of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which INEC says has ended. The commission’s voter portal currently states that the CVR process is not active and advises prospective voters to await official information on any new registration exercise.

Registered voters can, however, continue to access services including checking their voter status and locating centres for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards.

Other sections of the commission’s online platform provide information relating to voter records, transfers, replacement of lost or damaged PVCs and registration centres, although the availability of individual services may depend on the current electoral timetable.

INEC’s official Continuous Voter Registration programme for the 2025–2026 cycle ran from August 18, 2025, to August 30, 2026.

The commission had provided online pre-registration and physical registration during the exercise, allowing eligible Nigerians who had never registered to begin the process electronically before completing the required procedures.

INEC has repeatedly warned against multiple registration, maintaining that eligible voters who already have records in the national register should use the appropriate procedures for correcting or updating their information rather than registering again.

The commission has also provided an online voter verification service through which registered voters can check their status using their personal information or Voter Identification Number.

Preparations for the 2027 general elections are continuing, with INEC’s current official election calendar listing the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.

INEC has urged Nigerians to rely on its official platforms for information concerning voter registration, PVC collection, polling units and other electoral services.

Prospective first-time voters who were unable to participate in the concluded registration exercise are expected to await further directives from the commission regarding any additional opportunity to register ahead of the elections.
