Global human rights organization, Amnesty International has warned that women, girls in the Gaza Strip are facing increasingly dangerous living conditions as the ongoing conflict continues to devastate health services and humanitarian support systems.
In a new statement, the organization said the erosion of health, safety and basic living conditions for women in Gaza has pushed many to the brink, particularly pregnant women and those requiring urgent medical treatment.
According to Amnesty International, the destruction of hospitals, widespread displacement and restrictions on humanitarian aid have severely affected access to essential healthcare services in the territory.
The group stated that the situation has created serious risks for maternal and neonatal health, with medical workers reporting a sharp rise in complications such as premature births, low birth weight among newborns and respiratory illnesses affecting infants.
More than 72,000 Palestinians have been reported killed since the conflict in Gaza escalated in October 2023, according to figures released by the local health authorities.
Humanitarian agencies say the healthcare system in Gaza has been severely weakened, with shortages of medical supplies, limited access to fuel and damaged infrastructure affecting hospitals and clinics.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has also reported that reproductive health services remain heavily disrupted, with as many as 180 women giving birth daily under difficult conditions.
Aid organizations warn that overcrowded displacement shelters, poor sanitation and limited access to nutritious food are further worsening the situation for mothers and newborns across the enclave.
