Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning a three-year-old boy in the Omifon community of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the victim is the child of the suspect’s tenant.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 8:30a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, following a disagreement between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat. Jimoh stated that the suspect, who is the landlady, allegedly gave the child, Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.
“Shortly after consuming the substance, the child began vomiting, was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received prompt medical attention,” the police spokesperson said.
He added that detectives, acting on intelligence, swiftly arrested the suspect and recovered the liquid substance believed to have been used in the act.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful statements,” Jimoh noted.
The police have commenced a full investigation into the matter, and the case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
