Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has responded to his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party, dismissing the action as the outcome of what he called a rowdy political carnival held in Ibadan.

Wike’s reaction was conveyed through his media aide, Lere Olayinka, who criticised the atmosphere at the convention where the former Rivers State governor, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose and factional National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu were removed from the party over alleged anti party activities.

Olayinka said the gathering felt more like an early festive celebration than a serious political meeting, adding that many of those present conducted themselves as though they were attending a December jamboree.

According to him, the individuals who met in Ibadan appeared more interested in merrymaking than party affairs, insisting that any pronouncement made at such a gathering should attract little concern.

Despite multiple court orders advising against it, the PDP went ahead with the national convention where a unanimous motion to expel Wike, Fayose and Anyanwu was adopted. The motion was moved by party elder Chief Bode George and seconded by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed.

The convention highlighted deepening divisions within the party, as several senior figures had earlier urged the organisers to suspend the gathering to prevent further internal crisis.

Wike, who has repeatedly maintained that his political relevance is not dependent on the PDP, said the development will not distract him from his responsibilities as FCT minister.
