The factional National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated a 19-member State Caretaker Committee for the party in Lagos State.

The inauguration took place on Wednesday in Ikeja, amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP at the national level.

The Wike-backed faction had earlier announced the dissolution of the party’s state executives in some states, including Lagos.

The factional National Working Committee is led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy National Secretary of the factional NWC, Mr. Adedeji Doherty, who represented the National Chairman, accused some party leaders of violating the PDP constitution and contributing to the lingering crisis.

Doherty, a former Lagos PDP Chairman, blamed prominent party figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Chief Olabode George, and others, for what he described as actions undermining the party.

He said recognized leaders of the party had endorsed the newly inaugurated caretaker committee and called on members to unite in repositioning the PDP.

According to him, the November PDP national convention was illegitimate and not conducted in line with democratic principles, insisting that Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed remains the authentic National Chairman of the party.

Doherty charged the new caretaker committee to strictly adhere to the party’s constitution, adding that congresses would be conducted beginning in January.

He expressed optimism that the PDP in Lagos State would experience a major turnaround and called on members who had left the party to return and participate in rebuilding its structure.
