Volvo Cars is aiming to ease concerns over EV range anxiety with its upcoming mid-sized electric SUV, the EX60, which will offer a driving range of up to 810 km (503 miles) on a single charge. The Swedish automaker announced the launch for later this month.

“Range anxiety is one of the key challenges for EV customers, and the EX60 is designed to tackle it,” said Akhil Krishnan, head of Volvo’s EX60 program. The SUV will also support fast charging, adding up to 340 km of range in just 10 minutes under optimal conditions, making it practical for longer journeys with brief stops.

The EX60, an all-electric successor to Volvo’s best-selling XC60, will be built on the company’s new electric-only platform. Its promised all-wheel-drive range surpasses most mid-sized EVs, which typically achieve around 600 km, and competes with high-range models such as Tesla’s Model Y and Geely-owned Zeekr 7X.

Volvo has faced challenges in EV adoption due to issues with its smaller EX30 and full-size EX90 models, including software glitches, supply-chain constraints, and tariff-related delays. The company also announced a recall of certain 2024–2026 EX30 Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance vehicles, which carry a rare risk of overheating that could potentially cause battery fires.

The full specifications and pricing for the EX60 will be revealed on January 21, 2026, ahead of its global launch. Volvo hopes the new SUV will strengthen consumer confidence in electric vehicles and boost adoption, worldwide.
