Vodafone has moved far beyond the boundaries of a traditional telecommunications company, positioning itself as a central force in Romania’s digital and economic transformation. With the acquisition of Telekom Romania Mobile, the company is redefining connectivity, innovation and national infrastructure, signaling the beginning of a new chapter for Romania’s technology landscape.
The acquisition represents more than a transfer of assets. Vodafone Romania has taken over a substantial portfolio that includes most of Telekom Romania Mobile’s network infrastructure, a large share of radio spectrum, approximately two million customers and the company’s retail footprint. The deal also brings in a significant portion of Telekom’s workforce, strengthening Vodafone’s human capital and technical expertise.
According to Vodafone Romania CEO Nedim Baytorun, the focus is not merely on expansion, rather on integration and innovation. Vodafone plans to invest over 150 million euros within the next two to three years to merge the two networks into a single high performance communications system. The goal is to deliver broader coverage faster data speeds and improved reliability for customers across the country.
The integration process is being carefully managed through a detailed roadmap designed to ensure service continuity. While Vodafone and Telekom Romania Mobile will continue to operate as separate legal entities for now, the full merger is expected to be completed in the first part of 2026. Customer migration is already underway, will continue gradually over the next two years until a unified network and customer experience is achieved.
Looking at the broader picture, the transformation of Romania’s telecommunications sector over the past two decades has been remarkable. The country has progressed from basic mobile communication to advanced digital ecosystems, powered by 5G and smart services. Vodafone has played a defining role in this evolution, introducing every, major generation of mobile technology from 2G to 5G and consistently pushing the boundaries of innovation.
Today, Vodafone’s role extends well beyond connectivity. The company has become a vital part of Romania’s critical infrastructure, supporting consumers, businesses, public institutions alike. Its evolution into a technology driven connectivity and digital services company reflects a wider shift toward a smarter more resilient digital economy.
The future of telecommunications in Romania is expected to be seamless, deeply embedded in everyday life. Intelligent autonomous networks near zero latency and fully connected cities are no longer distant concepts. Vodafone is already laying the groundwork through initiatives such as satellite based video calls, space enabled communication systems that promise connectivity, regardless of location or terrestrial limitations.
The acquisition of Telekom Romania Mobile stands out as one of the most significant business transactions of 2025 not only for the telecom sector but for Romania’s economy as a whole. It reshapes the country’s digital future, delivering immediate benefits such as stronger network coverage, faster internet speeds, more reliable services for both individuals and businesses.
Beyond infrastructure, the deal sends a strong message of confidence in Romania as a stable, attractive destination for global investment. It reinforces the country’s position within the European digital ecosystem, encourages innovation, opens new opportunities for employment and professional development.

Most importantly, the customer remains at the heart of this transformation. Improved service quality, greater access to advanced technologies, more efficient digital solutions are becoming tangible realities rather than distant promises.
This is more than a corporate acquisition. It is a decisive step towards a smarter more connected Romania, a clear signal that the future of digital innovation is already unfolding.
