Donald Trump has said the United States does not need military support from the United Kingdom in the ongoing conflict with Iran, dismissing reports that Britain was considering deploying aircraft carriers to the Middle East.

In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the war had effectively already been won and suggested that British involvement would come too late to make a difference.

The comments followed a statement from the UK Ministry of Defence confirming that the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales had been placed on high readiness.

Trump wrote that while the United Kingdom had been a long-standing ally, the United States did not require additional military support after the progress made in the conflict.

The remarks reflect growing tensions between Washington and London since Trump returned to office.

The administration of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has taken a cautious position on the conflict, saying the UK is not participating in offensive military operations against Iran.

However, Britain has allowed the United States to use certain military facilities for what officials described as defensive purposes.

These include RAF Fairford and the military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.

The conflict began on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iranian targets, triggering retaliatory attacks from Tehran across the Middle East.

Reports indicate that the fighting has resulted in significant casualties, with more than a thousand deaths recorded in Iran and several fatalities reported among United States forces.

The war has also heightened tensions across the Gulf region as Iran continues to target American allies and military facilities.
