A United States-based physician and board-certified paediatrician, Dr. Bolaji Odusina, has declared her affiliation with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as she intensifies preparations for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.

Odusina, who recently announced her ambition to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun, said her decision to join the ADC followed extensive consultations aimed at identifying a suitable political platform for her vision.

Speaking with journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday, she acknowledged the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) but expressed confidence that political underdogs could still triumph.

“I am fully aware that our party will be up against the ruling APC and some very prominent political figures. Many see this as a David-and-Goliath scenario—but history has shown us how that story ends,” she said.

The governorship hopeful argued that many residents of Ogun State are seeking a new direction after what she described as years of unmet expectations under the current administration.

“After decades of disappointment, the people are ready for something different. They are ready for real, seismic change. Token gestures do not solve systemic problems,” she stated.

Odusina criticized what she termed a “suffering-and-smiling” approach to governance, stressing the need for leadership focused on addressing structural challenges in critical sectors.

“What the people want now is leadership that fixes systems—roads, healthcare, education, jobs, security, and opportunities for all,” she added.

She maintained that the 2027 election would be driven by competence, credibility, and ideas rather than financial strength or political influence.

“This contest is not about money or political muscle; It is about ideas, character, competence, and trust,” she said.

Explaining her choice of the ADC, Odusina said the party aligns with her vision of inclusive and people-centred governance.

“I chose the ADC because it offers a credible platform for fresh ideas, responsible leadership, and genuine service to the people,” she noted.

Running under the campaign theme “D-Doc 2027,” Odusina pledged to deliver practical solutions across key sectors, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, job creation, agriculture, security, and youth development.

A native of Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun East Senatorial District, she said her decision to contest was inspired by her passion for improving healthcare and social welfare, particularly in underserved communities.

Through her initiative, Doctors Without Prejudice, Odusina has conducted free medical outreaches across several communities, impacting thousands of residents—a experience she said shaped her political ambition.

Her proposed 12-point agenda includes 24-hour grassroots healthcare services, free and compulsory basic education, industrialisation-driven job creation, and empowerment programmes for youths and women.
