The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, has urged the United States government to steer clear of any idea or rumoured plan to invade Nigeria, insisting that such an action would worsen the nation’s fragile security situation.
Professor Egbewole made the call during a press conference in Ilorin as part of activities marking the 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration of the university.
He stressed that Nigeria does not need foreign military occupation but genuine support in the areas of advanced weaponry and intelligence gathering to help combat terrorism, banditry, and other security threats.
The Vice Chancellor also appealed to citizens to reject extremism and work collectively with government authorities to restore peace and stability across the country.

Reflecting on the institution’s milestone anniversary, Professor Egbewole noted that the University of Ilorin has fulfilled the vision of its founders through sustained research, innovation, and academic excellence since its establishment in 1975.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the administration’s continued support to the institution’s growth. He also commended the university community, security agencies, students, and management for their collective contributions toward the institution’s development.
