The University of Calabar has suspended nine students over alleged examination malpractice, forgery of academic results.
The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Registrar of the institution, Dr. Chukwuka Icha.
According to the statement, the suspension was approved at the university’s 252nd Senate meeting after the consideration of reports submitted by the Ad-Hoc Senate Committee on Examination Malpractice and the Senate Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
Dr. Icha explained that five of the affected students were found guilty of examination malpractice, while four others were sanctioned for submitting forged results to the university.
He stated that the students will be suspended for two academic sessions, with the punishment taking effect from the 2024/2025 academic year.

Those affected include students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, as well as others from the Departments of Home Economics, Zoology, Science Laboratory Technology, Linguistics and Communication Studies.
The university management has directed heads of departments, deans of the affected faculties, and the Acting Chief Security Officer to ensure full compliance with the suspension order.
Meanwhile, this development follows a recent decision by the University of Abuja to expel 28 students over various cases of misconduct, including falsification of admission documents.
