US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has held a phone conversation with Mexico’s Foreign Secretary, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against organized crime and cross border trafficking.
According to officials familiar with the discussion, both sides emphasized the need to dismantle narcoterrorist networks operating across the region, describing them as a shared security threat to both countries.
The talks also centered on curbing the trafficking of fentanyl into the United States and the illegal flow of weapons into Mexico, issues that have strained relations but remain central to joint security efforts.
Both diplomats reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration through intelligence sharing, law enforcement coordination and existing bilateral frameworks aimed at tackling transnational crime.
The call comes amid heightened concern in Washington and Mexico City over the impact of fentanyl related deaths and escalating violence linked to drug cartels, underscoring the urgency of sustained cooperation between the two neighbours.
