At least two persons were killed, 16 others injured on Sunday evening following a fuel tanker crash near St. Louis College, Jos – Plateau State.

The accident, which occurred around the Polo Field Club/Plateau State Specialist Hospital Roundabout axis, involved a fully loaded tanker, five other vehicles, eyewitnesses said.

Witnesses explained that the tanker allegedly lost its brakes shortly after passing the Plateau State Specialist Hospital Roundabout, continued descending uncontrollably before crashing into multiple vehicles, resulting in fatalities.

Confirming the incident in Jos on Monday, Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Plateau State Command, Peter Longsan, said 18 persons were involved in the crash.

According to him, two adult males died on the spot, while 16 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Plateau State Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BUTH) for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at BUTH’s mortuary.

In a statement issued after the rescue operation, Longsan said the FRSC received a distress call at about 6:49p.m. and immediately mobilized officers to the scene.

“Another road traffic crash occurred around St. Louis College near the Polo Field Club Roundabout on 28th December 2025 involving a laden tanker and five other vehicles,” he said.

He added that prompt intervention by the FRSC and sister agencies helped to prevent a possible fire outbreak, noting that there was no spillage of petroleum products from the tanker.

“To avert conflagration, sister agencies cordoned off the area, diverted traffic, ensured the safety of road users while preventing looting,” Longsan stated.
