President Donald Trump marked the first anniversary of his second term with a marathon White House briefing, covering topics from immigration to the United Nations, while emphasizing his controversial campaign to acquire Greenland.
Trump showcased AI-generated images on social media depicting US claims over Greenland, Canada, and Venezuela, signaling his determination to press ahead with territorial ambitions. When asked about potential military action, he gave a vague warning: “You’ll find out.”
The US President also questioned the longevity of NATO and the UN, framing his push for Greenland as vital for “security, financial security, and world security.” He claimed to have strengthened NATO by boosting defence spending but expressed doubts over whether allies would aid the US if needed.
On Venezuela; Trump highlighted the recent removal of President Nicolas Maduro, signaled potential cooperation with interim President Delcy Rodriguez, while suggesting a possible role for opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. US oil firms are expected to invest heavily in Venezuela following the operation.
Domestically, Trump defended the Minnesota immigration crackdown, targeting the Somali American community, and addressed the January 7 killing of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents, framing it as a complex situation involving “agitators” while expressing sympathy for the victim’s family.
Trump concluded the briefing touting economic growth and reverse migration trends, projecting optimism for his second-term agenda despite mounting tensions with US allies.
