The Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the operations were conducted on March 24, 2026.

According to the statement, troops acting on credible intelligence about the activities of suspected armed herders in Mbapa and Mbabuande communities in Gwer West Local Government Area mobilised swiftly to the area.

“On arrival, the troops conducted a thorough search and discovered an abandoned suspected criminal hideout. Troops continued clearance operations with further exploitation across River Akpako, leading to the arrest of two suspects, who are currently in custody undergoing further investigation,” Zubairu said.

In a related development, troops also responded to reports of kidnapping at Tse-Ubena village in Yooyo Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, led to the rescue of a 28-year-old victim, Mrs Member Ityavber.

“During the operation, one kidnapped victim was successfully rescued. The rescued victim is currently receiving care and has been reunited with her family after a debrief,” the statement added.

The OPWS spokesperson noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate responsible for the kidnapping.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, reaffirming the Joint Task Force’s commitment to maintaining security, especially as communities prepare for the farming season.
