Troops of the 144 Battalion (Rear), operating under Operation EASTERN SANITY, have arrested three suspected criminals and recovered a stolen Mack truck during a swift night operation in Abia State.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of 11 February 2026 at Akpaa, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected criminal elements in the area.
Acting promptly, troops apprehended three suspects: Darlington Ubochi (25) from Ugwunagbo LGA, Chinedu Abara (33) and Julius Chinemem Godwin (29), both from Obingwa.
The suspects were found in possession of a Mack truck with registration number T 4477 LA, reportedly stolen on 8 February 2026 from Port Harcourt Road, Aba, and later parked at Opobo Junction. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the vehicle had been officially reported stolen.
The recovered truck is being moved to the 144 Battalion Forward Operating Base in Osisioma, while the suspects remain in military custody pending further investigation and eventual handover to law enforcement authorities.
Captain Mazinho Attah, Public Relations Officer of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, described the operation as a demonstration of the Brigade’s ongoing commitment to denying criminals freedom of action and ensuring the safety of lives and property within its area of responsibility.
Further updates on the investigation and subsequent prosecution of the suspects will be communicated as they become available.
This operation aligns with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM’s directive to execute constitutional duties decisively within a joint and multi-agency framework.
