Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have intensified operations against terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states, recording a series of successes in ongoing offensives.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.
According to the statement, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters at Magonho Forest in Sokoto State on March 25, neutralising three suspected bandits and recovering three AK-47 rifles as well as motorcycles.
In Zamfara State, troops carried out a successful ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road, where two terrorists were neutralized while others fled.
The operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones and a motorcycle.
Osoba further revealed that later the same day, terrorists attempted a reprisal attack on Kaida Village, accusing residents of collaborating with security forces. Troops responded promptly, neutralising one additional attacker and recovering another AK-47 rifle.
In a separate operation in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area, troops acting on credible intelligence conducted a clearance mission that forced fleeing terrorists to abandon weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 26 rounds of ammunition.
Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, troops responding to intelligence on the presence of suspected Lakurawa Terrorist Group members in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, came under ambush about 500 metres from the village.
Despite the attack, the troops held their ground, while reinforcements and combat enablers have been deployed to the area. Ongoing intelligence-led operations are aimed at tracking and neutralizing the fleeing suspects.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and ensuring the safety of communities across the North-West.
“The morale of the troops is high, and their actions reflect courage, professionalism and service to the nation,” the statement added.
