Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled a terrorist attack, rescued 31 civilians who were abducted during an Easter church service in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The rescue operation followed a distress call reporting that armed terrorists had stormed an Easter service at an ECWA Church in the community and abducted several worshippers. Acting swiftly on the information, troops mobilized to the area, launched an immediate pursuit of the attackers.
With the support and guidance of members of the Ariko community, the soldiers tracked the fleeing terrorists, engaged them in a fierce firefight. Military sources said the troops overwhelmed the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon 31 hostages during the encounter.
Among those rescued was an injured victim who has since been evacuated and is receiving medical attention.
However, security officials confirmed that the remains of five victims who were killed by the terrorists were also recovered at the scene. According to the troops, blood trails along the terrorists’ escape routes indicate that several of the attackers sustained significant injuries during the exchange of gunfire.
Following the rescue, troops have intensified pursuit operations aimed at tracking down the fleeing terrorists, dismantling their hideouts. Efforts are also ongoing to ensure that any remaining captives are rescued and that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
To reinforce security in the area, the Nigerian Army has deployed additional troops to Ariko and surrounding communities. The move is intended to strengthen ongoing operations, enhance the military presence, and prevent further threats to lives and property.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives of citizens and defending the country’s territorial integrity. It also emphasized the importance of collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders in tackling security challenges.
Members of the public have been urged to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information, noting that collective vigilance remains critical to achieving lasting peace and stability across the country.
