Troops of Operation Eastern Sanity have intensified clearance operations against the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), destroying another major stronghold in Anambra State as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the South-East.
Military authorities said the operation, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies and supported by the Nigerian Air Force, targeted Camp Gbadoanya in Orsumoghu, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a statement on the operation, troops advanced into the camp on March 3, 2026, clearing remnants of IPOB/ESN fighters operating within the area and its surroundings.
During the operation, several insurgent camps were identified, thoroughly searched, and subsequently destroyed.
Items recovered from the camps include pump-action guns, locally fabricated dane guns, assorted rifle magazines, rifle components, belts of ammunition, and cutting machines. Troops also recovered Biafran currencies, materials used for manufacturing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and musical instruments believed to belong to a Biafran Army band.
Security forces further discovered and seized Biafran flags and a Biafran Army Headquarters flag at the location. The flags were destroyed while the Nigerian national flag was hoisted at the cleared camps.
The operation continued on March 4, 2026, with troops destroying additional camps within the Gbadoanya axis.
During the follow-up operation, soldiers also uncovered and dismantled an IED fabrication site, which was carefully searched before being destroyed.
Several items used for the production of explosives were recovered, including welding machines, drilling machines, filling machines, car batteries, an electrode welding handle, and twelve locally fabricated guns along with rifle components.
Military authorities said the sustained offensive is part of ongoing efforts by Operation Eastern Sanity to dismantle the operational structures of IPOB/ESN and restore lasting stability across the South-East region.
