Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition during a stop-and-search operation in Taraba State.

The operation, carried out on Thursday along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area, led to the interception of the suspects who were riding on a motorcycle.

The suspects were identified as Wisdom Soomga (32) from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State and Elisha Danladi (38) from Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to the Nigerian Army, a thorough search conducted on the suspects resulted in the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, as well as ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, and the motorcycle used for transportation.

The suspects and recovered items are currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift response, noting that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of Army Staff to curb criminal activities and enhance security in the region.

He urged troops to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations and reassured residents of the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
