Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have recorded major breakthroughs in Plateau State, arresting suspected impostors and neutralising terrorists in coordinated operations across Jos North and Wase Local Government Areas.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the operations were carried out late Thursday as part of intensified efforts to restore peace in the state.

In Jos North, troops responding to a distress call over sporadic gunfire at Dutse Uku around 11:45 p.m. intercepted and arrested two individuals posing as security operatives. The suspects, dressed in tactical black uniforms, were allegedly involved in burning residential properties and instigating violence within the community.

The military disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody, while two injured persons rescued from the scene have been taken to a medical facility and are in stable condition.

The arrest, according to the task force, counters allegations of military involvement in the unrest, suggesting instead that criminal elements disguised as security personnel are behind some of the attacks.

In a related operation in Karem, Wase Local Government Area, troops disrupted the movement of suspected terrorists traveling on motorcycles. Following a gun battle, three of the insurgents were neutralized, while others fled under sustained military pressure.

The military attributed the successes to the recent deployment of additional troops, including specialised counter-terrorism units, ordered by the Chief of Army Staff. It described the reinforcement as a “game-changer” in strengthening security operations across volatile areas.

The task force reaffirmed its resolve to eliminate criminal elements and restore lasting peace in Plateau State, warning that all perpetrators of violence would be decisively dealt with.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant, support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities to relevant authorities.
