Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged traditional rulers across the state to take responsibility for protecting government facilities within their domains from vandalism.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong, gave the charge during a meeting with the Forum of Village Heads at the Ministry’s conference hall.
He commended the royal fathers for sustaining peace in their communities during the yuletide season and beyond, noting that under the ARISE Agenda, development projects have been evenly spread across the state, with at least one project cited in every village.
Archibong reiterated the Governor’s promise to provide boreholes in all 329 wards and emphasized that village heads have been given relevance in grassroots leadership, which should not be taken for granted.
He warned that any act of vandalism would be viewed as negligence on the part of community leadership, stressing that there would be consequences for village heads if such incidents recur.
He also directed that youth presidents must register with the Ministry of Youth Development and collaborate with village heads to curb vandalism.
