Senior military leaders from the United States and Israel met at the Pentagon on Friday as tensions with Iran escalated, U.S. officials told Reuters.
The closed-door discussions involved U.S. General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Eyal Zamir, chief of staff of the Israeli armed forces. Details of the talks were not disclosed.
The meeting comes as the U.S. has increased its naval presence, strengthened air defences in the Middle East, following repeated threats from President Donald Trump towards Iran in an effort to pressure Tehran into negotiations. Iran warned on Sunday of a potential regional conflict, should the U.S. launch an attack.
Separately, Israeli Defence Minister, Israel Katz met with Zamir in Washington to assess the situation and review Israel’s military readiness for any scenario, according to Katz’s office.
The discussions underscore growing concerns over stability in the region, with both nations seeking to coordinate strategies amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
