President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended goodwill to Christians and Muslims as the seasons of Lent and Ramadan commence simultaneously, urging Nigerians to embrace peace, unity, good neighbourliness.

In a message released on Wednesday, the President described the rare alignment of the two sacred observances as a reminder that Nigerians, as people of faith, share common values and are united under God.

“This year, Lent and Ramadan begin on the same day. This is not a common occurrence, and it reminds us that as a people of faith, we share a lot in common and are one people under God,” Tinubu stated.

The President explained that Lent, observed by Christians, is a season of fasting, abstinence, and penitence, following the example of Jesus Christ before His crucifixion.

For Muslims, he noted, Ramadan is a sacred period marked by total submission to God, sacrifice, devotion, service, and communal love, and remains one of the five pillars of Islam.

“As a nation and as a people, I urge us, as we embark on these important observances, to ensure good neighbourliness, promote peace, unity, and stability, and pray for the progress and security of our nation,” he said.

President Tinubu called on Nigerians to uphold the moral teachings of their respective faiths, remain honourable in their duties to God and fellow citizens.
