President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated renowned economist and tax expert, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, as Minister of State for Finance, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
The nomination, which was formally transmitted to the Senate in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, will see Oyedele replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite in the Finance Ministry.
Dr. Uzoka-Anite has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial portfolio under the current administration.
Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded sweeping reforms that overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.
The reforms were widely regarded as a major step towards improving revenue generation, simplifying tax processes, and enhancing fiscal sustainability.
An indigene of Ikaram, Akoko, in Ondo State, Oyedele, 50, brings decades of experience in economics, accounting, and public policy to his new role.
He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He has also completed executive education programmes at prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he rose through the ranks after joining the firm in 2001 to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
His tenure at PwC established him as a leading voice on fiscal policy and taxation across the continent.
Beyond his corporate career, Oyedele is a Professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a Visiting Scholar at the Lagos Business School, reflecting his strong engagement in academia and policy research.
