President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to the Ogun State Government and the Onabanjo family following the death of former First Lady of Ogun State and matriarch of the family, Chief Lucia Onabanjo, who passed away at the age of 101.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the President commiserated with the people of Ogun State, as well as the family, friends and associates of the late wife of the first civilian Governor of the state, Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, who governed between 1979 and 1983.
President Tinubu described Chief Lucia Onabanjo as a woman of compassion whose life was marked by service, charity and positive impact on her community, the state and the nation at large.
He noted that the widespread tributes and testimonies that followed her passing were a clear reflection of the many lives she touched during her lifetime.
The President particularly acknowledged her steadfast support for her husband during his tenure as Governor, as well as her deep interest in issues affecting children and the empowerment of women, which he described as exemplary.
“Lucia Onabanjo’s strong support for her husband when he served as Ogun State Governor for four years was commendable, and her keen interest in issues of children and the empowerment of women was exemplary,” the President said.
He added that her legacy of kindness, generosity would endure beyond her lifetime.
President Tinubu urged the Ogun State Government, members of the Onabanjo family to consider immortalizing her memory by promoting and sustaining her legacy of love, compassion for the poor and vulnerable.
“I do not doubt that her legacy of charity and kindness will continue to resonate. I urge the Ogun State Government and family members to immortalise her by projecting her legacy of love for the poor and vulnerable,” he said.
The President prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul and for divine comfort and strength for her family.
“I pray that the Almighty God will receive Lucia Onabanjo’s soul and continue to strengthen her family,” President Tinubu added.
