President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated the Gateway International Airport in Ogun State, marking a significant milestone in the state’s aviation and economic development drive.
During the commissioning ceremony, held today, the President also unveiled Gateway Air, a newly established state-owned airline, alongside a modern cargo facility designed to boost air logistics and commercial transportation in the region.
The Ogun State Government explained that the projects form part of a broader aviation strategy aimed at positioning the state as a key hub for air transport, cargo operations, and investment in Nigeria. Officials noted that the airport and related infrastructure are expected to strengthen connectivity and support economic activities within Ogun and neighboring states.
Gateway Air will begin operations with two newly acquired aircraft, which will be operated and managed by ValueJet, an existing Nigerian airline. The partnership is intended to ensure professional management and efficient service delivery during the airline’s early phase.
According to state authorities, the introduction of the airline and the cargo terminal will complement the newly commissioned airport by facilitating passenger travel and improving the movement of goods across the country and beyond.
The government believe that the development could attract businesses, stimulate trade, and create new employment opportunities, further enhancing Ogun State’s position as an emerging center for logistics and industrial growth in Nigeria.
