President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of a special welfare fund to support members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, including personnel wounded in action and families of fallen heroes.

The initiative was unveiled on Sunday as part of activities marking the President’s 74th birthday, in honour of the sacrifices and service of military personnel across the country.

According to a State House press statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation to create a dedicated account for the fund.

The fund is expected to provide targeted assistance to injured service members, as well as widows, widowers, and children of soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In a personal gesture, the President pledged to donate all his salaries since assuming office as seed funding for the initiative, underscoring his commitment to the welfare of the nation’s armed forces.

Tinubu also called on state governors, members of the National Assembly, the private sector, and well-meaning Nigerians to contribute to the fund, noting that full details of its operation would be made public in due course.

He emphasised that supporting military personnel and their families is a national responsibility rather than an act of charity, stressing the need to uphold the dignity and welfare of those who risk their lives for the country.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen the welfare of the Armed Forces and ensure sustained care and recognition for their service.
