President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, on his election as Chairperson of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

Senator Kyari was unanimously elected on Tuesday to preside over IFAD’s 49th Governing Council, the apex decision-making body of the United Nations specialized agency focused on agricultural development and food security.

President Tinubu in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga
described the election as a strong endorsement of Senator Kyari’s leadership credentials and the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s agriculture and food security sector.

“The election of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security is a clear vote of confidence in his capacity and in the reforms he is spearheading across Nigeria’s agriculture and food security value chain,” the President said.

He expressed confidence that Senator Kyari would provide purposeful leadership to the global institution at a critical moment marked by rising food insecurity, climate challenges and economic pressures affecting vulnerable populations worldwide.

“I am confident that Senator Kyari will give IFAD the right leadership and further deepen its relevance and impact, especially at a time of global food security crises,” President Tinubu added.
