President Bola Tinubu on Thursday commissioned the redeveloped Tolu School Complex in Ajegunle, Lagos State built by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Tolu Schools Complex is built on an estimated 11.73 hectares of land, comprising 36 public schools, 31 secondary, and five primary schools situated in the densely populated Ajegunle in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State. It is touted to be the largest school complex in Africa.

The President was represented by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

In his remarks President Tinubu said the ceremony was more than a mere commissioning of a school but a reminder that the future of Nigeria depended on what the nation did for young people.

A statement by the Special Assistant on Media/Communication to the President of the Senate, Anietie Ekong quoted President Tinubu as commending the Lagos State Government for undertaking and delivering a project of that magnitude and for demonstrating bold and focused leadership.

“The remarkable scale and significance of the Tolu School Complex, serving tens of thousands of students within a single environment, is truly exceptional.

“The successful regeneration of such a large and complex educational system is highly commendable. It reflects vision, planning, and a clear commitment to improving the lives of our young people,” he said.

According to President Tinubu Nigeria must continue to invest in education, not just as a social service, but as a driver of economic growth and national development. “When we equip our children with knowledge and skills, we prepare them to contribute meaningfully to society, and to compete in a changing world.”

He assured that his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was committed to ensuring that every child had access to quality learning and that schools equip students with practical skills, and that young people are prepared to compete and thrive in a modern economy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said delivering a project of such magnitude in an environment that houses about 20,000 pupils testifies to the people-oriented nature of Lagos State governance.

Other facilities provided in the Tolu Schools Complex include a standard football pitch with race tracks, a multipurpose sport court for outdoor games, a fire service station, a health centre, perimeter fences around the entire complex, and gates to maintain security.

Also, a water harvester, a biodigester, and solar panels are available on the school premises to ensure a stable power supply, among others.

President Tinubu also virtually commissioned the Maracana Stadium comprising 19 mini-football pitches, built side-by-side in Ajegunle and the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Abijo, Ajah.
