President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians and members of the Armed Forces that the country will ultimately overcome the current security challenges, stressing that the sacrifices of the nation’s servicemen and women will not be in vain.
The President gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
President Tinubu commended the courage, dedication, and professionalism of military personnel who continue to confront terrorists and bandits across the country, often at great personal cost.
“I thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation. Many times you stay away from your families and face attacks by bandits and terrorists. I commend your courage, sacrifice and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens,” the President said.
He noted that the gallant efforts of the military have significantly weakened terrorist groups and criminal elements operating in different parts of the country.
“You have been working to serve the country deeply and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he assured.
The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and operational capacity of the Armed Forces through sustained investment in modern equipment, intelligence, and logistics.
President Tinubu further appreciated Nigerians for their patience and resilience as the government continues its economic reforms, expressing optimism that the country is beginning to emerge from difficult times.
“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and those of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he said.
The President also extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State over the recent terrorist attack in the state.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commended the President for recent approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational efficiency of the Armed Forces.
He specifically thanked the President for approving the upward review of salaries of military personnel, increased allowances for the Brigade of Guards, procurement of equipment, and provision of improved accommodation for officers and men.
According to him, the measures would significantly enhance the operational effectiveness and morale of troops.
“These approvals will go a long way in improving our operational efficiency, and I assure you that they are well received by members of the Armed Forces,” he said.
The interfaith breaking of fast brought together military leaders and personnel from different service branches as part of efforts to promote unity, reflection, and renewed commitment to national service.
