Federal agents in Minnesota have arrested three protesters who staged a demonstration inside a church against Pastor David Easterwood, accused of holding a leadership role with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
U.S. Attorney General, Pam Bondi said civil rights activists Nekima Levy Armstrong and Chauntyll Louisa Allen, who helped organize the protest were taken into custody, alongside anti-ICE activist, Army veteran, William Kelly.
Levy Armstrong faces charges under a federal law barring physical obstruction of houses of worship.
The arrests follow a weekend protest where demonstrators interrupted a church service, alleging Easterwood’s role at ICE conflicted with Christian values. Vice President JD Vance confirmed that the “ringleader” of the protest had been arrested. More arrests are expected.
Protesters are affiliated with Black Lives Matter Minnesota and the Racial Justice Network. Pastor Jonathan Parnell of Cities Church said legal action is being considered against the “agitators” for frightening congregants, causing disruption.
The arrests have sparked debate over free speech, religious rights, government response to civil activism.
