Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Tambuwal announced his resignation in a letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward of Tambuwal Local Government Area, Sokoto State, stating that his decision takes immediate effect.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said the move followed extensive consultations with political associates and supporters as well as deep reflection on the state of the party.

According to him, persistent internal crises, leadership disputes and widening divisions within the PDP made it increasingly difficult for him to remain in the party.

He noted that the ongoing conflicts have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the PDP.

Tambuwal expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it gave him to serve Nigeria in various capacities, including Speaker of the House of Representatives and Governor of Sokoto State.

He confirmed that he has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside his associates and supporters.

The senator said his decision was driven by his belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and commitment to national development.

Tambuwal also reaffirmed his commitment to democratic ideals, justice and national unity.
