The Swiss Confederation government confirmed it is continuing efforts to finalize a legally binding trade agreement with the United States, following a preliminary deal reached in late 2025. The initial agreement reduced U.S. tariffs on Swiss goods from 39% to 15%.

Switzerland’s Economy Ministry emphasized that the ongoing negotiations aim to provide Swiss companies with maximum legal certainty. Key stakeholders, including cantonal authorities, have not called for halting talks, even after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

“The primary objective of the ongoing negotiations has from the outset been a legally binding agreement that would provide Swiss companies with the greatest possible legal certainty,” the ministry said, reaffirming its commitment to the deal.

The agreement is seen as crucial for Swiss exporters, ensuring stability and predictability in their trade relations with the United States.
