The hometown of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, Madagali, was attacked in the early hours of Tuesday by suspected terrorists, resulting in the abduction of six family members.
The attack, which occurred in Gare Village, Pallam District, Madagali Local Government Area, was confirmed by the Adamawa State Police Command in a statement issued on Tuesday morning.
The attackers also reportedly rustled livestock during the raid.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police command spokesman, said a combined rescue team of police and military personnel has been deployed to the area to locate and safely rescue the abducted family members.
The statement reads:
“Upon receipt of the report, the Command immediately intensified collaboration and deployed additional personnel and operational assets in a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, Troops of 144 Battalion, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to the affected area and surrounding communities.”
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has directed sustained search-and-rescue operations, reinforced patrols, increased security presence across Madagali and other border communities to prevent further threats.
Nguroje reassured residents that the police, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies, remain fully committed to protecting lives and properties across the state, adding that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
Governor Fintiri on Tuesday began a tour of the 21 local government areas in Adamawa State to assess security challenges and other issues affecting residents.
The attack in Madagali comes shortly after similar violent incidents in the state, including the recent Hong Local Government attack, which claimed 12 lives, and a communal crisis in Lamurde Local Government Area earlier this year, which left over 20 people dead.
