Nigeria’s Super Eagles have surged to 26th place in the latest FIFA World Ranking, released on Monday, marking a remarkable 12-place climb from 38th.
The rise follows an impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where the Eagles finished third overall. Under coach Eric Chelle, Nigeria won six of their seven matches, with their only defeat coming in the semi-finals, where hosts Morocco edged them out on penalties. The team bounced back to secure third place with a 4-2 victory over Egypt, demonstrating both attacking flair and mental resilience.
The top 10 globally remains dominated by football heavyweights: Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany. Nigeria also recorded the highest points gain, earning +79.09 points in the ranking.
On the African continent, the top 10 nations are Morocco, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Tunisia, Congo DR, and Mali.
Nigeria’s rise highlights the growing strength of African football on the global stage, with the Super Eagles leading the charge.
