The final of the 2030 men’s FIFA World Cup will be held in Spain, according to the President of the Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzan.

Speaking on Tuesday, as reported by BBC Sport, Louzan said Spain would stage the tournament’s showpiece match, citing the country’s long-standing experience in hosting major international sporting events.

“Spain has proven its organizational capacity over many years,” Louzan said. “It will be the leader of the 2030 World Cup, and the final of that World Cup will be held here.”

Spain is co-hosting the centenary tournament alongside Portugal and Morocco, while the opening three matches will be staged in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first World Cup, held in Uruguay in 1930.

Although no venue has been officially announced, Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and Barcelona’s Camp Nou are widely regarded as the leading candidates to host the final.

However, world football’s governing body, FIFA, which retains final authority over match venues, has yet to confirm where the final will be played. The BBC said it has contacted FIFA, as well as the Portuguese and Moroccan football federations, for comment.

Morocco has previously indicated its interest in hosting the final at the Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, a stadium currently under construction, expected to be completed in 2028. With a projected capacity of 115,000, it would rank among the largest football stadiums in the world.

Last year, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Faouzi Lekjaa, said he hoped the stadium would host a World Cup final, potentially against Spain.

The 2030 World Cup will be the first edition of the tournament to be staged across three continents; Europe, Africa, and South America – marking a historic milestone in the competition’s history.

Despite Spain’s confidence, the final decision on venues rests with FIFA, which is expected to confirm key details closer to the tournament.
