After a seven-year break, Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has announced plans to hold a combined convocation ceremony on Saturday, February 28, 2026, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic history.
The announcement was contained in an official notice issued on January 21, 2026, and signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Ebi G. Eno-Ibanga. According to the notice, the ceremony will combine the 6th, 7th and 8th Convocation ceremonies and will take place at the AKSU Sports Grounds, Ikot Akpaden, in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The forthcoming event is particularly significant as it will be the first convocation ceremony held by the University in seven years, providing a long-awaited opportunity for graduands who completed their programmes across several academic sessions to be formally awarded their degrees.
In addition, the University announced that another combined convocation ceremony has been scheduled for the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th sets of graduands.
The ceremony is slated for Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will be held at the College Square, Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden.
The Registrar also disclosed that the matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students has been fixed for Friday, February 27, 2026, a day ahead of the February convocation, and will also take place at the AKSU Sports Grounds.
Members of the University community, parents, guardians, alumni and the general public have been urged to take note of the announced dates and venues. The University assured that a detailed programme of events will be made available through official channels in due course.
The planned convocation ceremonies are expected to restore an important academic tradition at AKSU, celebrate the achievements of thousands of graduates from multiple cohorts, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and institutional renewal.
