President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday welcomed the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists in Maga, Kebbi State, last Monday.

The President in a statement issued by his Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga described the schoolgirls’ return as a relief and a testament to the efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies.

Armed terrorists had invaded the school at dawn on November 17, shortly after a military detachment reportedly left the area, and whisked away the students.

The Kebbi incident triggered a series of copycat abductions in Eruku, Kwara State, and Papiri in Niger State.

All 38 victims kidnapped in Eruku were freed on Sunday.

Also on Sunday, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State announced that 50 of the students earlier reported missing from a Catholic school in the state had been located in their parents’ homes.

Commending the security forces for their operations across the affected states, President Tinubu urged them to intensify efforts to rescue all victims still held by their captors.

“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. Now, we must put as a matter of urgency more boots on the ground in the vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping. My government will offer all the assistance needed to achieve this”. The President said.
