Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, reportedly faced an attempted arrest on Thursday upon arrival at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, from Cairo, Egypt.
El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, stated on X that security operatives approached the former Governor as he disembarked and sought to take him into custody. According to Adekeye, El-Rufai refused to comply without a formal invitation.
“The security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation,” the statement read.
Adekeye further claimed that the operatives seized El-Rufai’s passport from an aide during the encounter.
