SANWO-OLU DONATES RICE, CASH TO MILITARY WIDOWS, VETERANS

Over 600 widows and 20 physically challenged military veterans received palliative support from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu through the Nigerian Legion, Lagos State Council.

The donations, which included rice, educational materials, and cash gifts, were distributed during Lagos Legion Day at the Multi-Agency Office Complex Hall, Bolade, Oshodi, on Tuesday.

Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, urged veterans to stay active in retirement and make use of the Defence Health Maintenance Limited for healthcare services. Brig Gen Edet Effiong, Director of Veteran Health, represented Shaibu at the event.

Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Olanrewaju Layode, through a ministry director, pledged continuous government support to the legion.

Lagos Legion Chairman, Akeem Wolimoh, disclosed that Governor Sanwo-Olu donated 500 bags of 25kg rice, pledged N100 million to support legion activities. Wolimoh also highlighted a programme to provide yearly educational support to 25 students.

Beneficiaries, including Esther Leko, Coordinator of the Widows of Military Fallen Heroes Association, expressed gratitude for the support. Retired Army Warrant Officer Ganui Odunuga prayed for continued wisdom and grace for the Lagos State Government and the Legion Council.

The donations reflect the government’s commitment to easing the hardships of military families and enhancing the welfare of retired service members.
